A caravan that's done a few thousand kilometres up through North Queensland arrives looking exactly how you'd expect — bugs embedded across the front, red dust in every crevice, a roof that's been sitting under trees and picking up whatever falls on it, and panels that have been in the sun for months on end.
We work through all of that properly. Not a quick rinse — the right products on the right surfaces, with a bit of care for the seals and trim that don't like harsh chemicals. If that makes sense.
One honest caveat: every van is different — different size, different surface type, different condition — so we don't have a flat rate. We'll give you a quote before anything happens.
Grey nomads arriving in Cairns have usually come a long way — and the van shows it. But even for caravans that stay local, the tropical climate is hard on the exterior year-round. Here's what's going on:
Our UV index is among the highest in Australia, and caravan gel coat and fibreglass panels go chalky and dull faster up here than down south. That white or cream surface that looked fine a couple of seasons ago can turn hazy quickly. Oxidation restoration can bring it back — not always to brand new, but a long way.
Anyone who's done a run through inland Queensland knows how deeply red dust gets into everything. It builds up in the roof rail channels, around the window rubbers, and under the van skirt. A proper wash lifts it out; a quick rinse doesn't get close.
Parking near the coast — whether that's Trinity Beach or anywhere up the Far North — means salt settling on the van daily. Left alone it works into the metal fittings, hinges and undercarriage. Keeping the exterior clean and the metal surfaces protected slows that down.
We walk around the van and have a proper look before touching it — roof, panels, seals, front cap, undercarriage. That's how we figure out what it actually needs and give you an honest quote.
The roof is usually the worst part and goes first. We work through the built-up grime, lichen, and staining by hand so it's done properly rather than just rinsed over.
Panels, wheel arches, front cap and underneath — washed by hand with products suited to the surface type. Bug and tar removal on the leading edge where it needs it.
Rubber seals and trim cleaned gently, windows done, any crevices and channel rails cleared out. The bits that are easy to skip but make the difference to how it holds up.
If the panels are chalky or faded, we cut them back and polish the surface up. We'll tell you honestly what's achievable on your van before we start — not every surface comes back to showroom, but most improve significantly.

It's quoted by size and condition — a small van with a straightforward wash is going to be very different from a large motorhome that needs oxidation work, so a flat rate wouldn't be fair to you either way. Just give us a ring, tell us about the van, and we'll sort you a number before anything happens.
Yes, and it's worth doing properly because the roof usually carries the most grime — mould, lichen, fallen leaves, and whatever's built up in the channels. We do the roof as part of any full exterior wash, not as an afterthought.
Often yes — chalky, faded fibreglass or gel coat can usually be cut back and brought up significantly with an oxidation restoration. How far it comes back depends on the surface and how long it's been oxidising, so we'll have a look first and tell you honestly what's achievable before we start.
We can come to you if there's reasonable access and a water point nearby, or you're welcome to bring the van to our Trinity Beach shop. For bigger jobs — especially oxidation restoration — the shop is often easier. Whatever works for you.
Carefully. We use products that are safe for rubber seals and don't dry them out or cause cracking. That's one of the things that distinguishes a proper caravan detail from a pressure wash — the bits that hold water out deserve a bit of thought.
After any long trip is a good time — especially one through inland Queensland where the red dust is serious. After that, once or twice a year keeps on top of the salt and UV up here. If the van is going into storage, a clean before it goes in is worth it — sitting dirty for months makes everything harder to shift later.
